Description

This is a Pair of Brno Armchairs, Model 255, initially designed by Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich in 1929. These rare bronze examples were manufactured in the United States by Knoll in 1971. The listed price includes the pair of two armchairs as shown. Their design features bent bronzed-steel arms, and sports a cantilevered base. The flat bar construction was some of the first of its kind, as opposed to the tubular stylings of the Bauhaus. With its advent in 29’-30’, the design would stake its origins in the tail end of the Bauhaus period, which ended in 33’.

Each chair measures 22.5 inches deep, 22.75 inches wide, and 31.5 inches in height. The seat height is 17.5 inches. The upholstery shows some signs of use around the corners, and there are some scuffs and scratches on the frames. The bronze finish is patinated. The cushions are crunchy and soft on the underside. Overall, this pair remains in good condition. Please see photos.
